Ms. Amanda Meech – Room 11

Mrs. Stephanie Thompson – Room 12

The 2010-11 school year is going to be exciting and full of opportunities to grow in faith and academics. Sixth grade is often a year with many changes, with children becoming more independent as they enter middle school.

Ms. Meech is teaching reading, language arts, and religion. Mrs. Thompson is teaching math, science, and social studies. Our goal is to work together with you to help your child have a successful school year. We would like to give you and overview of the rules, policies, and expectations for the year. Please review the rules and consequences with your child.

Rules

  • Be respectful of yourself and others
  • Follow classroom procedures
  • Contribute to learning environment
  • Be aware
  • Be prepared
  • Never distract
  • Follow directions
  • Do all your work

Consequences

We will again be using the “Discipline with a Purpose” program this year. Under this program the disciplinary steps that will be taken are as follows:

  • Verbal warning
  • “I Can Make a Plan” – This is a form completed by the student, which allows the student to take responsibility for his/her behavior.  The student is asked to reflect on their actions and the influence or impact these actions have on themselves and others.  Once a student completes the form it must be signed by both the student and their parents.
  • Call to parents
  • Conference with Principal

Serious offenses or multiple occurrences of a lesser infraction will result in the student receiving detention.

Dress Code

Dress code will be strictly enforced. Please review the dress code policy and help your child come to school properly dressed. Students will receive two dress code violation warnings. At the time of the third dress code violation, your child will complete an “I Can Make a Plan” form and receive a detention.

Tardiness

Learning starts promptly at 8:00 am. Tardiness is disruptive to the classroom; it causes distraction and interferes with the learning process.  Excessive tardies will lead to discipline procedures. Please – have your children to school on time.

Homework Policy

There will be daily homework assignments. Daily assignments will NOT be accepted late.

Additionally, students will be assigned various long term projects/assignments. Long term projects/assignments will be accepted late. However, the grade received will be lowered by one letter grade, per day, past the due date.

Homework and project assignments will be posted on the RenWeb system. Grades for tests and assignments will also be posted as quickly as possible.

Planners

The Student Planner that you purchased is a tool each student will utilize extensively. Students are required to have their Planners with them during all classroom periods. Your child will keep track of projects, tests, quizzes, daily assignments and lesson objectives in their Planners. We will direct and support the development of your child’s organizational skills. Please ask to see the Planner, and encourage your child to be organized.

We are excited to provide your children an exceptional education and have a strong and engaging curriculum planned. We look forward to working with you and would like to have continuous, open communication with all parents. Please feel free to contact us.  You may call the school or send us an email any time. We are looking forward to a great year.
