Art at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School focuses on a variety of genres. I work to enrich homeroom teachers’ core curriculum and try to instill a love of art for all students.

We primarily focus on the following:

Grades 1 and 2:
Experimentation with a wide variety of materials and techniques, as well as projects related to holidays. We use tissue paper, watercolor and tempera paint, construction paper, popsicle sticks, modeling clay and more.  We experiment with watercolor washes and  crayon resist, and make treasure boxes.

Grades 3 and 4
Specific artists, and their work.  Projects are related to those artists and their styles. Artists we study include Winslow Homer, Paul Klee, John Audubon, Marc Chagall, Mary Cassatt, El Greco, Edgar Degas, Henri Matisse, Leonardo Da Vinci, Paul Gauguin and Alexi Jawlensky.

Grade 5
Activities that may include a series of directions to follow, and more involved “units.”

Grades 6, 7 and 8

We use the text Exploring Art. by Gene Mittler, Ph.D. and Rosalind Ragans, Ph.D. This focuses on “What is Art?” elements and principles of art, techniques, etc.

At all grade levels we instill a focus on creativity, technique, and imagination.
